Troubleshooting TVS XL100 E20 Fuel Injection & Spark Issues
The TVS XL100 is India’s most popular utility moped. The latest E20-fuel compliant models feature updated electronic fuel injection (EFI) units. However, many mechanics struggle when these E20 models face starting or spark issues. Here is a troubleshooting sequence to resolve them.
Check 1: Verify the Fuel Pump Operation
Turn on the ignition key. Because the XL100 E20 uses a fuel injection system, you should hear the fuel pump buzz. If you hear silence:
- Locate the main relay under the footrest panel and verify it is getting power.
- TVS XL100 EFI models require clean fuel; contaminated E20 fuel can easily clog the small filter screen inside the pump.
Check 2: Diagnose Spark Loss
If the engine cranks but there is no spark at the spark plug:
- Inspect the HT coil and the spark plug cap.
- Use a diagnostic cable (like OBD Cable 13) connected to your scanner to verify if the ECU is sending ignition signals.
- Check the CKP (crankshaft position) sensor resistance. A faulty CKP sensor will not send engine speed signals to the ECU, preventing spark generation.
Summary: Always keep the battery fully charged, as weak voltage causes the ECU to cut off spark delivery on the XL100 E20 models.
