How to Use a Brake Bleeding Kit for Hydraulic Motorcycle Brakes
Over time, motorcycle brake fluid absorbs moisture and accumulates air bubbles, leading to a spongy brake lever feeling and reduced stopping power. Bleeding your brakes removes these air bubbles. Using a Manual Brake Bleeding Kit makes this job clean, fast, and easy for a single person. Here is how to do it.
Step 1: Prep the Brake Reservoir
Park the bike on a level surface. Clean the brake fluid reservoir cap (front handlebar or rear frame) and remove the cover. Top up the reservoir with fresh brake fluid (typically DOT 3 or DOT 4, as specified on your reservoir cap).
Step 2: Connect the Bleeding Kit
Locate the brake caliper bleeder valve near the brake disc. Remove the rubber dust cap and attach the hose of your Brake Bleeding Kit to the valve. Ensure the collection bottle is placed securely below the caliper level.
Step 3: Flush the Air
- Pump the brake lever 3 to 4 times and hold it down firmly.
- While holding the lever, slightly loosen the bleeder valve using a wrench. Brake fluid and air bubbles will flow into the tube.
- Close the valve immediately before releasing the brake lever. Repeat this process until you see solid brake fluid with zero air bubbles entering the tube. Keep topping up the reservoir during this process so it never runs dry!
